What a donor is entitled to know, in one place.

The organization

Zeitoun Memorial Foundation Inc is a nonprofit corporation organized under the laws of the State of New Jersey and recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Employer Identification Number (EIN): 46-1785264. The foundation's exempt purpose is cultural and historical: the construction and operation of a memorial and museum of the 1968 apparition of the Virgin Mary at Zeitoun, Egypt, in Hillsborough, New Jersey; the collection and preservation of its historical record; and the preservation and presentation of the heritage of the Coptic people of Egypt and of the Coptic community in the United States. The foundation is not a church or a religious organization.

The foundation is registered with the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs, Charities Registration Section, registration number CH3802200.

New Jersey charitable-solicitation disclosure

INFORMATION FILED WITH THE ATTORNEY GENERAL CONCERNING THIS CHARITABLE SOLICITATION AND THE PERCENTAGE OF CONTRIBUTIONS RECEIVED BY THE CHARITY DURING THE LAST REPORTING PERIOD THAT WERE DEDICATED TO THE CHARITABLE PURPOSE MAY BE OBTAINED FROM THE ATTORNEY GENERAL OF THE STATE OF NEW JERSEY BY CALLING 973-504-6215 AND IS AVAILABLE ON THE INTERNET AT www.njconsumeraffairs.gov/ocp/charities. REGISTRATION WITH THE ATTORNEY GENERAL DOES NOT IMPLY ENDORSEMENT.

Tax deductibility

Contributions to the foundation are tax-deductible for U.S. federal income tax purposes to the extent permitted by law. The foundation files its annual information return with the IRS on Form 990-PF; the limits that apply to a donor's deduction depend on the foundation's classification and the donor's circumstances, and donors should consult their own tax adviser. No goods or services are provided in exchange for contributions unless stated at the time of the gift; where they are, the receipt will state their fair market value.

Receipts

A written acknowledgment is issued for every contribution, including the foundation's name, the date and amount of a cash gift or a description of a non-cash gift, and a statement that no goods or services were provided in return (or a description and good-faith estimate of any that were). Online gifts receive an automatic receipt from the payment processor and an acknowledgment from the foundation.

How gifts are used

Unrestricted gifts are applied to the foundation's exempt purpose as its board directs — currently, to the next phase of the memorial's construction and the costs of running the foundation. Gifts designated for a named opportunity are applied to that element of the building; if the element cannot be built as designated, the foundation will consult the donor about an alternative. The foundation's annual returns, listing receipts, expenses and assets, are public and are linked from the Foundation page.

Refunds

Gifts are generally not refundable. If a gift was made in error — a duplicate transaction, or a wrong amount — contact the foundation within 30 days at info@zeitoun-memorial.org and it will be corrected. Monthly gifts can be changed or cancelled at any time through the payment processor or by writing to the foundation.

Payment processing

Online gifts are processed by PayPal on behalf of the foundation. The foundation does not receive or store card numbers. PayPal's handling of your information is governed by its own privacy statement.
